A card that is the thing, not a note about the thing
On a Milanote board, “Chapter 12” can be a note, a synced note, or a link to a long-form Document. You can keep it open as a reference while writing elsewhere, draft the chapter in that Document, or export it. What it doesn’t become is a chapter in a separate manuscript system.
On an OpusWriter Board, a card titled “Chapter 12” can be chapter 12. Create it through Board’s Companion workflow or link one that already exists, then arrange it with the others inside a frame called Act Two. Open Write and it is there, in your manuscript, the same chapter and not a copy of it. The same is true of a character, a setting, a piece of canon, or a beat from a Beat Sheet. Editing a linked chapter’s name or synopsis updates the source. Moving or removing its card changes the Board, not the manuscript’s order or the chapter itself.
Board can still hold plain notes, pictures, and documents. Not every thought needs to become part of the book. The difference is that when one does, you don’t have to make it twice.
Which should you choose?
Milanote Pro costs about $120 a year per person. OpusWriter costs $129 once and the Board comes with the outline, the cast, the manuscript, and the publisher. Plenty of writers will keep Milanote for everything that isn’t the book.
